POST – DENTAL SURGERY CARE


After surgery, patient is required to follow the instructions provided by the dentist that includes the following:

Oral care after surgery

  • DO NOT TOUCH wound with tongue, fingers, or any other object
  • Avoid brushing the surgical area on the day of surgery
  • Use a soft bristle toothbrush and carefully floss teeth from next day of surgery
  • NO SPITTING
  • Do not use a straw, drink carbonated beverages or hot drinks for at least 2 weeks after surgery

General care after surgery

  • Avoid smoking and alcohol for at least 2 weeks to facilitate proper healing of the wound
  • Resume daily prescription medication as schedule (e.g. antidiabetic or antihypertensive medications)
  • Take antibiotics, pain medication and other medications as prescribed by the dental surgeon
  • Mild Facial swelling is normal after surgery and ice pack should be applied on it for 20 minutes each hour for the first 24 to 48 hours
